Welcome to the heatwave! August is traditionally the roughest summer month, with the heat having one last gasp before Autumn begins to take over in September. By most accounts, it’s going to be a brutal August in 2021.
If you want to stay cool and avoid getting too hot this summer while out in your car, here are some steps to take that will help you out!
- Avoid Iced Drinks - it’s a common misconception that drinking an icy-cold beverage will bring your body temperature down. The truth is, it will raise your body temperature to combat the cold inside your body. Hot tea and coffee won’t lower your temperature, but your body doesn’t need to do the one big trick it knows to protect you-- make you hotter.
- Plan all your Excursions Out - the better you plan your time driving, the cooler you can keep your car. If you can avoid going out at midday/noon, you will avoid the worst time driving and seeking parking.
- Invest in Some Coverage - a sun screen and a window blocker for the back window will keep your car cool. Factor in cracking your windows open to let in just enough breeze, and your upholstery will absorb less heat from the sun.
- Maintain Your Car’s Air Conditioning - if you let your car’s AC fall into disrepair, it can become much more expensive to restore at a later time. Let your mechanic know about any issues with your air conditioning. More than just an inconvenience or a burden, being without air conditioning on a hot summer’s day can be very unhealthy.
